PM Modi Holds Talks With Australian Foreign Minister on India-Australia Strategic Ties

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and her Australian counterpart Penny Wong met in New Delhi on Tuesday to assess the growing Indo-Australian Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and to reiterate their commitment to working together for a peaceful, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

Meeting takeaways included a commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation in the areas of defence, commerce, technology, and supply chain resilience, according to Prime Minister Modi.

While in India for the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Wong met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for bilateral discussions on the increasing focus on economic and security issues in the Indo-Pacific region.

Wong emphasised that the Quad is pursuing new efforts in energy security, essential minerals, and regional infrastructure development, highlighting the fact that the agenda is moving.

She made the announcement that the Quad “Ports of the Future” program will be starting with a test port in Fiji with the goal of improving economic possibilities and connectivity in the Pacific area.

According to Wong, the Quad’s continued priority is to tackle the increasing economic and strategic problems in the Indo-Pacific region while also providing concrete results.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a transparent and safe marine domain throughout the region and to bolstering maritime security.

Wong added that the Quad nations will work together more closely in the fight against scam centers, especially in Southeast Asia, by coordinating their law enforcement efforts and collaborating on cyber-security.

To improve digital connection and economic development, she emphasised the ongoing underwater cable projects for Pacific Island Forum countries that are funded by the Quad.

Infrastructure, energy, cyber security, and regional resilience were major topics of discussion, reflecting the Quad’s larger trend toward operational collaboration in these areas.
