While meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President To Lam of Vietnam reiterated their dedication to enhancing collaboration in healthcare, digital payments, and new technology.
Afterwards the bilateral meeting, the two presidents released a joint statement in which they reaffirmed the significance of cooperation in areas including digital transformation, healthcare, AI, nuclear power, and essential minerals, as well as the expanding relationship between their respective nations.
In light of the achievements of India’s pharmaceutical sector, the two countries have mutually agreed to investigate the possibility of Indian companies delivering medications to public healthcare institutions in Vietnam beginning in 2027.
The growing importance of technology in healthcare has prompted Vietnam and India to call for collaboration in digital health transformation, which includes the application of AI.
The presidents of the two nations came to an agreement to enhance research exchanges, knowledge sharing, and institutional cooperation in light of the long histories of traditional medicine in each country. A number of agreements, including one to establish an academic chair in Ayurveda in Vietnam and another to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Traditional Medicine, have been suggested, and their progress has been applauded.
The importance of digital technologies was emphasised by both presidents, who also expressed their joy at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on financial innovation and digital payments between the State Bank of Vietnam and the Reserve Bank of India.
The two nations have come to an agreement to facilitate retail payment connectivity through QR-code based systems that are connected to India’s UPI framework. This move is anticipated to enhance tourist, trade, and economic relations between the two countries.
