Dutch Naval Delegation Arrives in Kochi to Boost India–Netherlands Maritime Ties

According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, the Royal Netherlands Navy ship HNLMS De Ruyter (F804) has arrived in Kochi, marking a major milestone in the expansion of maritime cooperation between the two countries.

Upon arrival, the frigate was given a ceremonial welcome as part of its five-month Indo-Pacific deployment. It is scheduled to take part in combined maritime activities with the Indian Navy.

Rob De Wit and Marisa Gerards are part of the visiting team. They met with authorities from the Southern Naval Command to examine ways to improve bilateral naval cooperation.

Visiting the SNC War Memorial on the Netherlands’ National Remembrance Day was a meaningful way for the delegation to show their solidarity with the Dutch people and their reverence for its military veterans.

Visits to training facilities, presentations of cutting-edge naval simulators, and opportunities to exchange best practices are all part of the agenda. Cochin Shipyard Limited will also be visited by the delegation in order to discuss potential shipbuilding collaboration.

In order to improve cooperation and operational coordination between the two fleets, the Dutch ship will participate in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) alongside an Indian military vessel before setting sail.

India and the Netherlands are becoming more strategically aligned and have strengthened their defence ties in the Indo-Pacific region, as this visit demonstrates.
