Aadhaar Redesign Claims False, Government Clarifies Amid Viral Rumours

Reports circulating on Sunday suggested a possible simplification of the Aadhaar card format; however, the government has denied any such plans. Claims were deemed deceptive by the Ministry of Electronics and material Technology, which issued a warning against the dissemination of unconfirmed material.

The ministry issued a statement denying rumours that Aadhaar cards may soon consist of just a photo and QR code, saying the stories have caused needless public confusion.

Official releases published through PIB and confirmed updates from the Unique Identification Authority of India should be the only sources of information that citizens should trust, while media outlets should refrain from spreading unfounded rumours.

The reports in question have gone viral on social media, prompting the correction. No decision has been made on any change in the format of Aadhaar, according to authorities.

The statement highlights the significance of Aadhaar, which is the biggest biometric identification system in the world. It has been instrumental in verifying identities across various services in India, with over 17,000 ,000,000 authentication transactions completed and around 134 crore users.
