NLC India and EDF Ink NDA to Develop Potential Nuclear Projects in India

Exploring the development of nuclear power plants in India, NLC India Limited has signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with EDF France. This is a significant move towards increasing India’s capacity for clean energy.

As one of the leading nuclear operators in the world, the French state-owned utility EDF has vast experience in all stages of nuclear power, including the design and construction of pressurised water reactors (PWRs) and European pressurised reactors (EPRs). Working together, we will assess cutting-edge technology that provides carbon-free, scalable energy options, like EPR and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

Supporting larger programs like Viksit Bharat and net-zero carbon targets, the collaboration is in line with India’s long-term objective of attaining 100 GW of nuclear generating capacity by 2047. This comes after the SHANTI Bill, which attempted to update the nuclear industry’s regulatory structure, was also passed.

With a diverse portfolio including thermal, renewable, and developing energy sources, NLC India aims to achieve 20 GW of total installed capacity by 2030. By working with EDF, it hopes to increase its influence in nuclear power and speed up the shift to renewable energy.

The deal is a reflection of the increasing global collaboration around India’s nuclear expansion plan, which aims to increase energy security, decrease carbon emissions, and guarantee a steady supply of electricity for the future.
