No Shortage: Government of India Says LPG Supply Normal

Despite ongoing worries about global supply owing to tensions in West Asia, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has reported that domestic deliveries of LPG cylinders are stable and that panic bookings have declined.

In order to control demand, the federal government has allocated more commercial LPG to the states, with a focus on essential institutions like hospitals and schools, which currently receive around half of the overall allocation. Hotels, restaurants, dhabas, industrial canteens, food processing units, and dairy enterprises are among the high-consumption segments that will receive an extra 20%.

All refineries are running at maximum capacity with sufficient crude supplies, the administration stated, in response to concerns over global shipping problems, especially around the Strait of Hormuz. There is an adequate supply of gasoline and diesel across the country, and domestic LPG production has also been maximised.

Officials are warning the public not to panic buy petrol because they have not seen any shortages at stores run by oil marketing corporations. To combat LPG stockpiling and illegal marketing, enforcement activities, including as raids, are continuing across all 50 states and the Union Territories.

Domestic PNG connections and CNG for transportation continue to get their full allocations of natural gas, as do other key sectors. Eighty percent of the gas that businesses and industries use is already going to those sectors.

New PNG connections for residential and commercial users should be prioritised by city gas distribution (CGD) providers including Indraprastha Gas Limited, Mahanagar Gas Limited, GAIL Gas Limited, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, according to the government. Under the supervision of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, incentives are being provided to speed up adoption, and the time it takes to approve connections has been reduced.

Furthermore, it has been requested that states and union territories expedite the necessary permissions for the expansion of CGD networks, in order to facilitate a more widespread transition to piped gas solutions.

These steps show that the administration is taking the initiative to keep energy and supplies stable in the face of changing geopolitical uncertainty.
