WCL Showcases Community-Focused CSR

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) Director (Finance & HR) Bikram Ghosh participated as a lead panellist at the National Conference & Exhibition on Corporate Social Responsibility (NCCSR 2026) in New Delhi, where he highlighted the company’s community-focused approach to Corporate Social Responsibility.

The conference was organised by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, and brought together CSR leaders, policymakers, corporates and other stakeholders to discuss evolving approaches to social responsibility and community development.

WCL Promotes Collective Social Commitment

During the panel discussion, Ghosh shared WCL’s approach to CSR and emphasised the importance of designing initiatives around local needs and long-term regional development. He said CSR should be viewed as “Collective Social Commitment” rather than only as a statutory requirement.

He highlighted the need for organisations to work collectively with communities and local stakeholders to address their priorities, particularly in areas surrounding mining operations. According to Ghosh, this approach can help make CSR interventions more meaningful and sustainable.

Focus on Community Development

WCL’s CSR initiatives cover several areas, including healthcare, education, skill development, women empowerment, livelihood generation, sanitation and community infrastructure. The company’s participation at NCCSR 2026 provided a platform to share its CSR practices and engage with organisations working in the social development space.

The panel brought together experts and CSR leaders from the Department of Public Enterprises, NSE Foundation, Spark Minda Group, Tata Steel Foundation, Inclusion Foundation and ONGC Foundation. The session was moderated by Gaurav Majumder, Thematic Lead, HCL Foundation.

WCL’s participation highlighted its focus on community-driven CSR, sustainability and long-term social impact, with an emphasis on addressing local needs through targeted social development initiatives.
