Surya Narayan Panigrahi has taken charge as Executive Director (HR) of NTPC Limited after more than 36 years with the power utility. He has held senior HR roles across several NTPC projects, regional offices and the Corporate Centre.
Surya Narayan Panigrahi has taken charge as Executive Director (HR) of NTPC Limited. He was elevated to the position with effect from June 8, 2026.
Before his elevation, Panigrahi served as Executive Director (HR)-cum-Regional Head of HR for NTPC’s Northern and Southern regions. He has handled HR responsibilities across multiple functions during his long association with the company.
Surya Narayan Panigrahi Brings 36 Years of NTPC Experience
During his career, Surya Narayan Panigrahi has handled recruitment, training and development, industrial relations, employee welfare, administration and security.
He has also worked on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and HR digitalisation initiatives. His assignments have covered several major NTPC establishments.
These include Talcher Kaniha in Odisha, Vindhyachal in Madhya Pradesh, APCPL Jhajjar in Haryana and Tanda in Uttar Pradesh. He has also served at NTPC’s Corporate Centre in New Delhi and the Southern and Northern Regional Headquarters in Hyderabad and Lucknow.
Surya Narayan Panigrahi Contributed to HR Digitalisation
During his tenure at NTPC’s Corporate Centre, Panigrahi contributed to the implementation of PeopleSoft HRMS and SAP ERP systems. These initiatives supported the digital transformation of NTPC’s HR processes.
He also contributed to the development of integrated security systems across the organisation.
Later, Panigrahi headed the HR function at NTPC’s Tanda Super Thermal Power Station. He subsequently led HR functions for the Southern and Northern regions.
In December 2025, he took additional responsibility as Regional Head of HR for the Northern Region while continuing his responsibilities for the Southern Region.
Professional Engagement in HR and Management
Panigrahi has been associated with professional bodies including the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), All India Management Association (AIMA), National HRD Network (NHRD), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Power HR Forum and Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD).
He has also participated as a guest and keynote speaker at professional forums. His engagements have covered human resources, leadership and organisational development.
Surya Narayan Panigrahi to Lead NTPC HR Functions
As Executive Director (HR), Panigrahi will oversee NTPC’s human resources functions. His responsibilities will include supporting the company’s organisational transformation, capability building and workforce-related initiatives.
His appointment adds to NTPC’s senior leadership structure as the company continues to focus on organisational development and long-term growth.
