NALCO Signs MoU with Odisha Pollution Control Board on Fly Ash Utilisation

NALCO and the State Pollution Control Board of Odisha have signed an MoU to improve fly ash utilisation, environmental monitoring and capacity building.

NALCO has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Odisha, to strengthen the management and utilisation of fly ash generated from its operations.

The agreement was signed on 18 September 2026 in the presence of Shri Ganesh Ram Sing Khuntia, Minister of State for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Odisha, and Shri Pankaj Kumar Sharma, Director (Production), NALCO.

NALCO to Strengthen Fly Ash Management

Fly ash is a by-product of coal-based power generation and industrial processes. Proper management can help reduce its environmental impact and support its productive use.

Fly ash can be used in areas such as construction, road building and land development. The MoU will support coordinated efforts to improve its utilisation and management.

Under the agreement, NALCO and the Odisha Pollution Control Board will collaborate on environmental assessments related to fly ash. The two organisations will also promote its beneficial utilisation.

The partnership will further include training and capacity-building programmes. These programmes will focus on better fly ash handling, management and disposal practices.

NALCO and SPCB to Promote Sustainable Industrial Practices

The MoU is expected to strengthen coordination between NALCO and the state pollution control authority. It will combine NALCO’s industrial expertise with SPCB’s regulatory oversight.

The collaboration aims to support cleaner industrial operations and more responsible resource utilisation in Odisha.

NALCO Focuses on Resource-Efficient Operations

The initiative is aligned with efforts to promote sustainable industrial practices. It also seeks to reduce the environmental footprint associated with large-scale manufacturing and power generation.

NALCO said the collaboration will support a more environmentally responsible and resource-efficient system for managing industrial by-products.
