Indian Railways has sanctioned two major Indian Railways Infrastructure Projects exceeding ₹275 crore in total investment. The projects focus on upgrading electric traction power and building critical road-rail connectivity to expand network capacity, boost operational safety, and speed up traffic flow.
The Ministry of Railways divided the capital across key routes under South Coast Railway and Western Railway.
Powering Capacity: Electric Traction Upgrade on Savalyapuram-Guntur Route
Indian Railways allocated ₹142 crore to enhance the electric traction system along the Savalyapuram-Guntur section.
- Coverage: Spans 73 Route Kilometres and covers 146 Track Kilometres.
- Network Authority: South Coast Railway zone.
- Operational Impact: Reinforces local power distribution networks to support heavier traffic loads on the strategic HUN corridor.
This traction upgrade increases grid reliability and allows the route to handle higher train frequencies smoothly.
Streamlining Logistics with the New Indian Railways Infrastructure Projects ROB
Indian Railways also approved a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) on Western Railway’s Udhna-Ukai Songadh section. The total estimated outlay stands at ₹133.23 crore.
- Cost-Sharing Model: Executed 50:50 between the central railway ministry (₹66.61 crore) and the respective state government (₹66.61 crore).
- Engineering Scope: Features a complex 62% skew design. The viaduct measures 311.58 metres (₹19.98 crore), while the Railway Approach extends 524.32 metres (₹10.25 crore).
- Traffic Benefits: Eliminates direct level-crossing interactions, easing vehicular congestion and preventing train delays.
These dual infrastructure developments support Indian Railways’ long-term effort to eliminate level crossings and modernize key freight and passenger corridors.
