Semiconductor equipment giant Lam Research plans to invest approximately ₹10,000 crore to establish its first silicon component manufacturing unit in India. This multi-year initiative will establish a vertically integrated process for silicon ingot production and advanced semiconductor processing.
Expanding R&D Alongside the Lam Research Silicon Component Manufacturing Unit
“Lam Research Corp…intends to invest approximately Rs 10,000 crore to add its first silicon component manufacturing facility in the country and augment its advanced research and development operations,” the statement said.
The planned R&D expansion leverages the existing Lam India Center for Engineering. This core hub already drives critical global work across several operational areas:
- Engineering Design: Architectural and hardware product design for global customers.
- Testing & Validation: Rigorous quality assurance for next-generation tools.
- Technology Development: Advanced engineering for leading-edge nodes.
Strengthening Local Partnerships and Ecosystem Collaboration

We remain committed to collaborating with the government, academia, suppliers, start-ups and other stakeholders to help accelerate semiconductor innovation that benefits the industry globally,” Rangesh Raghavan, corporate vice president and managing director, Lam Research India, said.
The company plans to deploy this capital phased over the next several years to strengthen supply chains across the country.
“The new manufacturing facility and augmented R&D operations are expected to create new opportunities for partnerships with local suppliers in India,” the statement said.
