In order to move forward with India’s plans to enhance fuel economy and energy conservation in the automotive industry, the Ministry of Power has issued a call for public comments and stakeholder feedback about the Draft Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE-III) Norms. Manufacturing or importation of M1 category passenger vehicles for sale in India from 2027-28 to 2031-32 is the target year for the proposed legislation.
With the help of the CAFE-III standards, India hopes to achieve its larger goals of decreasing fuel consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and increasing energy security while also making passenger vehicles more fuel efficient. M1 vehicles, which include passenger cars used for personal transportation, will be covered by the proposed rules.
Before the comment period ends, the Ministry has asked everyone from car manufacturers and trade groups to look over the draft and give their opinions. Feedback from stakeholders can be sent via email or sent to the Under Secretary (Energy Conservation) of the Ministry of Power.
The Ministry has set August 6, 2026 as the deadline for comments and proposals. The goal of the consultation is to help India move towards cleaner, more fuel-efficient transport while also making sure the final framework is reflective of industry needs.
More people will be able to see and have a say in the policymaking process when the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) post the Draft CAFE-III Norms on their official websites.
As part of its continuing plan, the Indian government is considering new laws that will increase energy efficiency standards, promote technical innovation in the car industry, and help achieve India’s climate and sustainability objectives in the long run.
Stakeholders in India’s passenger car sector now have a chance to influence future energy efficiency laws with the introduction of the Draft CAFE-III Norms, which is a significant step towards increasing fuel economy standards.
