Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, and underscored that infrastructure development is a key driver of national progress.
Infrastructure Fuels Growth and Connectivity
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said that infrastructure has always played a transformative role in the development of countries.
“Infrastructure has played a great role in the development of nations. Consider a place where there is no railway station — once it is built, development begins naturally. When a road is constructed, farmers can take their produce to markets, and progress starts,” he said.
He emphasized that infrastructure is not just about bridges and buildings, but about opportunities that arise wherever development reaches.
Four New Vande Bharat Trains Launched
In a major boost to India’s high-speed rail network, the Prime Minister flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains —
- Kashi–Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express
- Firozpur–Delhi Vande Bharat Express
- Lucknow–Saharanpur Vande Bharat Express
- Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express
With these additions, over 160 Vande Bharat trains are now operational across India, connecting major cities and improving passenger comfort and travel time.
‘Vande Bharat is for the People, by the People, of the People’
PM Modi said that the ongoing initiatives — including NaMo Bharat and Amrit Bharat — are building the foundation for the future of Indian Railways.
“Vande Bharat is for the people, by the people, and of the people of India. Earlier, it was considered impossible, but today these trains are being built in our own country — this is India’s strength,” he stated.
He added that even foreign visitors are impressed by India’s progress in indigenous technology and railway innovation.
Connecting Faith and Development
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s cultural and spiritual connectivity, noting that the expansion of the Vande Bharat network is linking the nation’s heritage and modernity.
“In India, pilgrimages have always been a medium to awaken the nation’s consciousness. Connecting destinations like Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Haridwar, Chitrakoot, and Kurukshetra through Vande Bharat is linking India’s culture, faith, and path of development,” he said.
Boosting Health Infrastructure in Varanasi
Highlighting improvements in public health services, PM Modi recalled that a decade ago, patients in Varanasi and Prayagraj faced severe challenges in accessing medical care.
“Earlier, for diseases like cancer, people had to sell their land to travel to Mumbai for treatment. Today, our government is working to make facilities in Banaras a special experience for everyone,” he said.
The government, he added, continues to strengthen healthcare systems to ensure citizens receive modern, affordable medical facilities locally.
Towards a Developed and Self-Reliant India
With a growing network of Vande Bharat and NaMo Bharat trains, India is moving closer to its vision of a connected, developed, and self-reliant nation. The Prime Minister’s address reaffirmed that infrastructure, connectivity, and innovation remain central pillars of India’s growth story.
