Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured space startups of continued government support and urged them to develop solutions that address everyday needs. During an interaction with CEOs and founders of 20 space startups in New Delhi, Modi highlighted opportunities to apply space technology across agriculture, livestock management, dairy, environment and other sectors.
He said India’s private space ecosystem can become a major force for the country and the global space industry.
Space Startups Urged to Focus on Everyday Applications
Modi asked space companies to expand beyond traditional applications and explore technologies that can directly benefit people.
He suggested greater collaboration between space companies and organisations in other sectors. Such partnerships could help startups scale their technologies and develop practical solutions.
For example, companies working on space debris could collaborate with environmental organisations. Similarly, space technology firms serving the agriculture sector could work with agricultural universities and government departments to help farmers make better decisions and improve productivity.
Government Backs India’s Private Space Sector
The Prime Minister said the government will continue to support young entrepreneurs as they build India’s space capabilities.
He praised the founders for taking risks, trusting the country’s reform process and entering a highly demanding industry. According to Modi, India’s space sector has made significant progress in recent years due to these efforts.
He also said India has an opportunity to build a strong, innovative and commercially viable space model for the world.
Space Startups Can Attract Global Investment
Modi said India’s private space ecosystem could attract global talent, companies and investment. He urged industry players to strengthen the country’s position in the international space market.
He noted that many countries either cannot invest heavily in space or choose not to do so. This creates an opportunity for India to expand its role in the global space industry.
The Prime Minister also called for stronger collaboration within the industry and encouraged companies to identify new applications for their technologies.
Startups Encouraged to Engage With Schools
Modi encouraged space startups to work with Atal Tinkering Labs. He said engagement with school students can build curiosity about space and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators.
He recalled that opening India’s space sector to private participation created strong interest and new opportunities for industry.
Private Space Industry Showcases Diverse Capabilities
The CEOs and founders shared their work across several areas of the space industry. These include rocket development, reusable semi-cryogenic launch vehicles, avionics, satellites, advanced propulsion, space and defence intelligence, space debris removal, and AI-powered weather and climate intelligence.
The participating companies highlighted their efforts to develop technologies and capabilities within India. They also acknowledged government support and growing collaboration across the private space ecosystem.
The interaction included sky root Aerospace, Agnikul Cosmos, Pixxel, Dhruva Space, GalaxEye, PierSight, Bellatrix Aerospace, Digantara, SatSure, Suhora Technologies, Manastu Space, Astrobase, TakeMe2Space, VyomIC, Cosmoserve Space, OrbitAID Aerospace, SkyServe (Hyspace), Serendipity Space, Vassar Labs and mistEO.
India’s Space Ecosystem Enters a New Growth Phase
The interaction reflects the growing role of private companies in India’s space sector. The government is encouraging startups to build indigenous capabilities while expanding commercial applications.
With greater collaboration across sectors, India’s space startups could play a larger role in solving challenges related to agriculture, climate, environment and other areas of daily life.
