Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has delivered ‘Mangrol’, the third ASW Shallow Water Craft in a series of eight vessels, to the Indian Navy.
The delivery marks another milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing and naval capabilities. The vessel has been designed and built by CSL for anti-submarine warfare operations in shallow and coastal waters.
ASW Shallow Water Craft Mangrol Joins Indian Navy
The Delivery Protocol for Mangrol was signed by Dr. Harikrishnan S, Director (Operations), CSL, and Commander U Sharan Kumar, Commanding Officer (Designate) of Mangrol.
The ceremony was attended by Jose VJ, Chairman and Managing Director of CSL, and Cmde Piyush Badoni, Chief Regional Officer, Headquarters Western Naval Command, along with senior officials from CSL and the Indian Navy.
ASW Shallow Water Craft Built for Underwater Threats
Mangrol is equipped with advanced systems designed to detect, track and counter underwater threats.
The vessel will operate in shallow coastal waters and strengthen the Indian Navy’s ability to conduct anti-submarine warfare missions in the littoral zone.
Its induction will add to the Navy’s capabilities for monitoring and responding to underwater threats close to India’s coastline.
Five More Vessels Under Construction
Mangrol is the third of eight ASW Shallow Water Craft being built by Cochin Shipyard.
The remaining five vessels in the series are currently at various stages of construction at the shipyard. Their delivery will further expand the Indian Navy’s shallow-water anti-submarine warfare fleet.
Delivery Supports Aatmanirbhar Bharat
CSL said the delivery reinforces the objectives of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by advancing India’s domestic shipbuilding and defence manufacturing capabilities.
The indigenous design and construction of the vessels also highlight the growing role of Indian shipyards in supplying advanced platforms to the country’s armed forces.
