Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted how India’s expanding solar energy sector is creating opportunities in agriculture, energy storage, domestic manufacturing and employment. His remarks come ahead of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026 and the 9th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA). India is also working towards its target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity.
Solar Energy Initiatives Drive Wider Adoption
In two social media posts on Monday, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) highlighted articles by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi. One article examines India’s solar power growth through flagship initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM.
PM Modi said the article explores the expansion of solar power and its future potential. It highlights opportunities in solar-powered agriculture, energy storage, domestic manufacturing and green employment. These areas are expected to support India’s broader renewable energy ambitions.
Rooftop Solar and Storage Support Clean Energy Transition
Another post shared by the Prime Minister highlighted an article co-authored by Joshi and philanthropist Michael Bloomberg. It focuses on the growing contribution of solar power to India’s energy requirements.
The article discusses the expansion of rooftop solar installations and the need for investment in energy storage and transmission infrastructure. These investments will play an important role in supporting the country’s clean energy transition.
Solar Energy Growth Links Agriculture with Manufacturing
Joshi said India’s clean energy transformation was creating new opportunities for millions of people, from rooftops to farmlands. He highlighted the role of Prime Minister Modi’s vision and initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar, PM-KUSUM, the National Green Hydrogen Mission and domestic solar manufacturing in accelerating the transition.
The minister also underlined the economic and energy-security benefits of expanding renewable energy. Solar adoption across households and agricultural activities, alongside investments in domestic manufacturing, is helping connect the clean energy transition with wider economic opportunities.
India to Host Global Renewable Energy Gatherings
India is preparing to host the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026 and the 9th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance. Joshi said the country looked forward to welcoming global leaders and innovators to strengthen international clean energy partnerships.
He described India’s renewable energy expansion as a model for a cleaner and more sustainable future. He also noted its contribution to economic growth and energy security.
India’s growing solar energy ecosystem is increasingly linking clean power with rural development, manufacturing, employment and energy security. The upcoming international gatherings will provide a platform to share India’s experience and strengthen partnerships to accelerate the global renewable energy transition.
