RECPDCL Hands Over Jalna Transmission Project SPV to Maharashtra Transmission Utility

Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) has taken over Jalna Power Transmission Limited, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) created for Maharashtra’s intra-state transmission project, from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited (a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power).

After the successful conclusion of the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process, which was overseen by RECPDCL as the Bid Process Coordinator, the transfer was finalised on June 12, 2026. After a competitive bidding process, the transmission project will be developed by Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited using the BOOT model.

Shri Ratnesh Kumar, General Manager (Engineering) of RECPDCL, officially ceded the SPV to Ms Vineeta Shriwani, Company Secretary, and Shri Amit Naik, Chief Engineer (TBCB) of Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited, during the ceremonial handover. Esteemed representatives from RECPDCL, MSETCL, and the Maharashtra State Transmission Utility (STU) were present during the function.

With this transmission project, the government of Maharashtra hopes to better prepare for the region’s anticipated increase in power demand. Installation of a 400/132 kV substation at Jalna and around 135 kilometres of 132 kV double-circuit transmission lines linking Jalna (New) to Jalna MIDC, Partur, Ghansawangi, and Utwad are all part of the project.

The project, which is projected to increase grid reliability, facilitate power evacuation, and enhance electricity supply for industrial, commercial, and residential consumers, is a substantial addition to Maharashtra’s transmission network and has an estimated investment of 912 crore.

Electricity demand in Maharashtra is on the rise due to industrialisation, urbanisation, and economic development, which coincides with the timing of the infrastructure expansion. It is believed that the new transmission assets will help with efficient power flow, lessen transmission limitations, and make the grid more stable in the area.

Timely completion of the project within 24 months demonstrates the state’s dedication to updating power infrastructure and guaranteeing a steady supply of electricity to sustain economic growth in the long run.

In order to expedite transmission infrastructure projects around the nation and encourage competitive bidding, RECPDCL—one of the top power sector finance and project development agencies in India—remains vital. The TBCB framework’s ability to entice seasoned utilities and guarantee the timely completion of critical power projects is further demonstrated by the successful transfer of Jalna Power Transmission Limited.

It is a major step forward in improving Maharashtra’s power transmission network as Jalna Power Transmission Limited has been transferred to Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited. It is anticipated that the project, which includes a new 400/132 kV substation and 135 km of transmission lines, will improve grid dependability, facilitate industrial expansion, and fulfil the increasing electrical demands of the state, all at an expenditure of 912 crore. The construction is in line with India’s larger goals of updating its transmission infrastructure and establishing a robust power ecosystem to support its future growth.
