Power Grid Transmission Project to Evacuate 6 GW Solar Power

The Power Grid Transmission Project will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The project carries quoted annual transmission charges of Rs 3,244.33 crore.

It will enable the evacuation of up to 6,000 MW of renewable power from the Barmer-II solar project in Rajasthan.

1,000-Km HVDC Transmission Line Planned

The project includes the establishment of 6,000 MW, ±800 kV HVDC terminals at Barmer-II in Rajasthan and South Kalamb in Maharashtra.

The South Kalamb substation will also be augmented as part of the project.

In addition, PGCIL will construct an approximately 1,000-km ±800 kV HVDC bipole transmission line.

The line will pass through Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Project Includes 400 kV Lines and SynCon Units

The transmission project will also include associated 400 kV transmission lines.

Two SynCon units will be installed at Barmer-II to support the transmission system.

The project will strengthen the inter-state transmission network required to evacuate large-scale renewable power from Rajasthan to other parts of the country.
