The operational capacity of the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project has been increased to 1,000 MW with the commencement of commercial operations of the fourth 250 MW unit by the state-run NHPC Limited. Incorporating 250 MW of clean energy into the national grid, the plant started commercial operations on May 8. The hydropower project is being developed in phases throughout Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Its predicted benefits include improved grid stability, support for peak power demand, and assistance with the integration of renewable energy sources.
The commissioning, according to NHPC CMD Bhupender Gupta, proves the company’s competence in carrying out projects and fits in with the government’s goal of improving India’s renewable energy infrastructure.
