On Thursday, the WagonR Flex Fuel, India’s first flex-fuel passenger vehicle, was revealed by Maruti Suzuki India Limited. This is a huge step forward in India’s quest for greener transportation options.
It is the first mass-market passenger car in India that can run on 100 percent ethanol fuel; the vehicle was recently unveiled and is designed to run on ethanol-petrol mixes ranging from E20 to E100.
India is trying to lessen its reliance on imported crude oil and cut down on pollution from vehicles, thus the government is putting a lot of emphasis on alternative fuels and energy security, which includes the launch.
The government’s goal of expanding the use of ethanol in transportation inspired Maruti Suzuki to create the WagonR Flex Fuel.
Vehicles that can run on different mixes of petrol and ethanol are known as flex-fuel vehicles, and they help achieve both consumer and environmental sustainability goals.
The business has said that this launch is a major milestone in their efforts to increase biofuel usage and fortify India’s sustainable mobility infrastructure.
Witnessing the unveiling ceremony, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing cleaner and alternative fuel technologies.
Among the government’s plans to diversify fuel options and decrease emissions, Gadkari disclosed during the occasion that diesel blended with 15% isobutanol is being considered for introduction.
While upgrading older vehicles to tighter pollution requirements like Euro 6 criteria, he urged automobile makers to research methods for making them flex-fuel compatible. This includes Maruti Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp.
Such measures, says Gadkari, might bolster the car scrappage programme, which seeks to phase out older, more polluting vehicles, and therefore reduce air pollution.
The event was addressed by Gadkari, who cited the automotive industry as a major factor in India’s economic progress.
He made a point of how the vehicle industry has grown to become India’s third-largest market, which has boosted the country’s GDP, job creation, and manufacturing production.
The future of the sector, according to the minister, will be heavily dependent on cleaner fuels and sophisticated car technologies.
