Education, Panchayati Raj, Housing and Urban Affairs, Mines, Labour and Employment, Minority Affairs, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) are among the important ministries that have had secretaries and senior officers appointed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The goal of the appointments is to fill positions left vacant by senior officials’ retirements and maintain administrative continuity.
A number of important appointments have been made, including Katikithala Srinivas as Secretary of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry of Development and Vineet Joshi as Secretary of the Panchayati Raj Ministry. Shri Naresh Pal Gangwar will succeed Shri Piyush Goyal as Secretary of the Department of Higher Education within the Ministry of Education.
T. K. Anil Kumar has been appointed Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, by the ACC. Sushil Kumar Lohani will take charge as Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy after being designated Officer on Special Duty in that department.
In addition to these senior appointments, Archana Varma, Keshav Chandra, D. Thara, B. Rajender, Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Satendra Singh, Suchindra Misra, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and the Ministry of Official Language all have secretaries.
Along with the appointments, the ACC has also in-situ upgraded Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav, Shri Dilip Kumar, Rajeev Singh Thakur, and Mritunjay Kumar Narayan to the position of Special Secretary, with the rank and salary of the Secretary to the Government of India. The officers will stay put in their current positions while they undergo a temporary promotion.
The moves are a part of a larger attempt by the government to strengthen governance and guarantee a seamless transition of power in senior administrative jobs by promoting experienced officials to leadership positions in key ministries and departments.
To maintain continuity of administration and strengthen leadership across important government agencies, the most recent ACC choices are one of the major senior-level bureaucratic reshuffles this year.
