Please ensure that you have all the necessary travel documentation before setting out on your journey on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with private tour operators. This is according to a crucial recommendation sent by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for Indian residents.
The warning follows reports of multiple Indian pilgrims who got stuck in Nepal on their way to Mansarovar Lake and Mount Kailash because they didn’t have the proper paperwork, including a Chinese visa and a Tibet travel permit. Many of the affected pilgrims had used private trip operators, according to the MEA.
Starting the trek without first arranging the necessary visas or licenses could leave pilgrims trapped and cause unnecessary problems, according to the Ministry.
The Middle East Authority (MEA) issued a warning reminding pilgrims to wait to begin their journey until they have received all of the necessary travel clearances. Delays, entrance denials, or being stuck in transit nations are far more likely when travellers do not have complete documents.
Before completing any payments or concluding trip plans, potential pilgrims should confirm that their tour operator is appropriately registered and authorised, according to the Ministry. When you choose a dependable operator, they will take care of all the necessary travel paperwork and permissions ahead of time.
The warning follows news reports that 52 Indian nationals are waiting for help in Kathmandu, Nepal, after being unable to obtain the required travel documents. After NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule pleaded with the MEA and the Indian diplomatic posts to offer urgent assistance to the impacted pilgrims, the matter gained national attention.
Among the holiest pilgrimages for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon adherents is the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. A valid Chinese visa and special entrance permissions granted by Chinese authorities are among the many approvals that pilgrims must acquire because the journey goes into the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
At the same time, the first group of Indian pilgrims entered China through Nathu La Pass on June 20 as part of the officially sanctioned Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026.
