Indian Railways Records Highest-Ever Production of General, Non-AC Coaches

Indian Railways has recorded its highest-ever production of General and non-AC coaches to meet growing demand for affordable travel, the Ministry of Railways said on Tuesday.

For 2025–26, the national transporter plans to roll out 4,838 new LHB General and non-AC coaches, followed by 4,802 coaches in 2026–27, as part of a sustained fleet modernisation drive.

Fully non-AC Amrit Bharat Express services are expanding, with 13 new trains added in 2025, taking the total to 30. Two Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services are also operational, boosting regional connectivity.

The Railways said Aadhaar-based Tatkal bookings and technology-led monitoring have improved ticketing integrity, leading to the deactivation of 5.73 crore suspicious IRCTC accounts.

Passenger safety remains a priority, with safety funding nearly tripled and train accidents declining sharply. To handle peak demand, over 43,000 special train trips were operated in 2025, while 76 stations have been identified for passenger holding areas ahead of the 2026 festival season.
