Amidst rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia and a quickly changing global order, the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is scheduled to begin in New Delhi in 2026, with India serving as chair.
Over the course of two days, foreign ministers and senior representatives from BRICS and partner nations will convene for a ministerial engagement chaired by S. Jaishankar. Arrivals of delegations have started in the nation’s capital, where they are expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting is anticipated to have a significant impact on the agenda for the Leaders’ Summit later this year, being the first major engagement at the ministerial level during India’s BRICS presidency.
Key regional and global developments, improving multilateral cooperation, and reforming global governance frameworks to reflect current geopolitical realities will be the focus of discussions, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
As part of its chairship, India will focus on “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” This aligns with the prime minister’s “Humanity First” and people-centric approach, which he expressed at the 2025 summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Additionally, the meeting highlights India’s expanding leadership role among nations of the Global South and its increasing influence within the BRICS group. As its diplomatic and strategic influence grows within the BRICS, India is hosting an engagement at this level for the fourth time.
The meeting is anticipated to lay the groundwork for more robust economic cooperation, more solid political alignment, and a more coordinated response to global challenges among the member nations of the BRICS, which is rapidly expanding in both membership and global significance.
