The five-day official visit of Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez began on Wednesday in New Delhi, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The purpose of the tour is to strengthen ties between Venezuela and India in key areas.
The visit will further strengthen the bilateral partnership, according to Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, who expressed his delight at Rodríguez’s arrival. As she arrives in New Delhi, we extend a cordial welcome to Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez. The MEA reported that Rodríguez is set to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss many aspects of their relationship, including energy security, renewable energy, healthcare, commerce and investment, pharmaceuticals, and transportation. They will also look into potential new areas of cooperation in these areas.
Along with her is a high-ranking delegation from Venezuela, which comprises the ministers of transportation, science and technology, economy and finance, and foreign affairs. The group will visit facilities associated with India’s energy, pharmaceutical, and automotive sectors during their visit to learn about these industries’ technological and industrial prowess and to find places where they may work together.
According to the MEA, this is Rodríguez’s sixth journey to India. Her previous visits were in 2015 while she was Venezuela’s foreign minister and in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025 while she was vice president. The ministry further stated that the continuity and depth of interaction between the two countries are demonstrated by the frequency of high-level encounters.
The MEA noted that India has been a significant energy and investment partner of Venezuela, highlighting the strategic nature of the relationship. The energy industry in Venezuela has seen substantial investment from Indian PSUs, and these entities are eager to investigate ways to increase their footprint there, according to the statement.
The MEA stated that the energy sector collaboration, trade, and common commitment to the Global South are the foundations of the cordial and friendly relations between Venezuela and India. Securing energy supplies, accelerating trade and investment flows, and advancing cooperation in pharmaceuticals, healthcare delivery, transportation infrastructure, and clean energy are among the many areas that are expected to benefit from the current visit’s efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and expand collaboration.
Indian strengths in manufacturing, healthcare, and renewables present opportunities for collaborative projects, and the two sides will likely evaluate next measures to turn intentions into practical collaborations through sectoral visits and talks at the leadership level.
