At the second Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting in Manila, India and the Philippines reaffirmed their bilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism in the face of changing regional and global security threats.
Capacity building, judicial cooperation, counter-terror operations, and law enforcement coordination were among the primary areas of emphasis during the two-day meeting. A zero-tolerance policy was reaffirmed by both parties as they vehemently denounced terrorism in all its manifestations, including transnational threats.
The Philippines has voiced its support for India in the wake of recent terrorist attacks, highlighting the fact that both countries are worried about the increasing dangers to national security, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As an indication of the high level of institutional engagement between the two nations, the meeting was co-chaired by Vinod Bahade and Marshall Louis M. Alferez.
Improving real-time intelligence sharing and coordinated responses to new threats, such as the abuse of new and emerging technology for terrorist purposes and the funding of terrorism, was a major area of focus. Strategies to combat violent extremism and radicalisation were also discussed.
In a coordinated worldwide effort to combat terrorism, the two countries have emphasised the significance of enhancing cooperation at multilateral forums like the UN, APG, ASEAN Regional Forum, and Financial Action Task Force.
While in the Philippines, the Indian delegation met with the National Security Council and the Anti-Money Laundering Council, two of the most important Philippine institutions, to further coordinate operations and policies.
A continuation of bilateral security engagement was underscored when the two sides decided to host the next Joint Working Group meeting in India.
In general, the discussion shows that India and the Philippines are becoming more in agreement on security issues, particularly when it comes to intelligence-led operations, regulatory alignment, and multilateral collaboration to tackle complicated terror threats.
