In December 2023, thirty Amrit Bharat Express trains went into service, along with nine additional services that improved connection throughout the country, including the Northeast, Eastern, Central, Western, and Southern areas of India.
According to an official release, this effort intends to improve India’s long-distance rail network with a focus on inclusivity and scalability. The Amrit Bharat Express trains have two second class/luggage/guard vans that are accessible to passengers with disabilities, eight sleeper class coaches, eleven general class coaches, and a pantry car. They are not air-conditioned.
The goal is to provide the general public with a high-quality, contemporary, and comfortable travel experience. With a clear pricing structure that steers clear of dynamic pricing, fares are roughly Rs 500 every 1,000 kilometres. In addition to providing reasonably priced long-distance connectivity and fostering social cohesion and economic integration throughout India, this service is essential for enabling travel for work, education, and family needs.
For regular travellers, the Amrit Bharat Express is a significant milestone, and more network expansions are anticipated to improve regional connections and prospects
