Energy Security Push: India Turns to Multiple Sources Amid Middle East Tensions

According to Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas, the country is taking measures to ensure a steady supply of domestic fuel regardless of regional geopolitical concerns by expanding its import sources of crude oil and gas beyond West Asia.

Despite disruptions created by the turmoil in the Middle East, the minister stated during an informal engagement with the media that India’s fuel supply chain remains stable because the country’s energy imports continue to come through different sources and supply channels.

Puri claims that the government has moved swiftly to guarantee that essential fuels for homes and important industries will continue to be supplied without interruption.

Despite supply issues, compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) continue to be supplied at 100% to domestic customers, while industry are receiving gas at a rate of roughly 70-80%.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to provide reliable and reasonably priced electricity to all homes in the nation in a post on X (Twitter).

Puri assured the public that there is no need for alarm because there is an abundance of energy for domestic use and that the government is keeping a careful eye on international events to ensure that India’s energy supply is secure.

In light of increasing global geopolitical risks, India is attempting to diversify its energy sources and decrease its reliance on old supply lines.
