Dreamfly Innovations, an Indian deep-tech company, has announced plans to build a 40,000 sq. ft. aviation battery factory in North Bengaluru. This is a huge deal for the drone manufacturing ecosystem in India and will help the government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat programs move forward. With an initial annual production capacity of 100 MWh and the option to increase to 200 MWh, the planned plant would rank among the largest dedicated aviation battery manufacturing units in the nation, catering to the drone sector. The goal of the investment is to lessen reliance on imported aviation batteries by increasing domestic production of advanced battery systems.
Agricultural spraying, logistical services, next-generation urban air mobility platforms including air taxis, defence operations, surveillance, infrastructure inspection, and high-performance aviation batteries will all be made at the new production site. Reliable, lightweight, and high-energy-density batteries are in high demand due to the continued rapid expansion of India’s drone business. Supporting the expansion of indigenous drone manufacturers, Dreamfly intends to increase the performance, safety, endurance, and dependability of unmanned aerial systems by manufacturing these innovative power solutions domestically.
The company claims that their battery products already have 77% indigenous content, which shows its dedication to creating locally made technologies. A number of government programs are in sync with this growth, including the Kisan Drone Policy, which encourages the use of drones for pesticide spraying, crop monitoring, and precision farming. India aspires to become a worldwide powerhouse for drone technology and sophisticated aircraft manufacturing; the company aims to contribute considerably by improving local value addition and strengthening the domestic supply chain.
Drones’ performance, safety, endurance, and operational reliability are heavily influenced by aviation batteries, according to Kajal Shah, Co-Founder and CEO of Dreamfly Innovations, who commented on the project. With the country’s drone economy on the rise, she said, it is crucial to establish superior battery manufacturing skills in India. Along with bolstering the goals of Viksit Bharat, Make in India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat through the establishment of a strong domestic environment for next-generation aviation technology, the new facility would, according to the business, expedite innovation in deep-tech manufacturing.
