Dr Anjani Kumar has assumed charge as Director (Technical – Projects & Planning) of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) on September 28.
Dr Anjani Kumar has taken charge as Director (Technical – Projects & Planning) at Western Coalfields Limited (WCL). He assumed the new responsibility on September 28.
Before joining WCL, Dr Kumar served as Executive Director (Contracts) at Coal India Limited (CIL) Headquarters in Kolkata. He held the position from October 2025.
Dr Kumar brings more than 33 years of experience with Coal India Limited. His professional expertise covers mining operations, project planning, vigilance, contract management and corporate management.
Dr Anjani Kumar’s Academic and Professional Background
Dr Anjani Kumar holds a B.Tech. in Mining Engineering and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from IIT (ISM), Dhanbad. He also holds a First Class Mines Manager’s Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).
He has an MBA in Human Resources from Sikkim Manipal University. He also holds an Executive Diploma in Project Management from the International Institute of Program and Project Management.
Dr Kumar started his professional career with Coal India Limited in April 1993. During his career, he held several key positions at Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).
He also served as Technical Secretary to the Chairman-cum-Managing Director at BCCL. Later, he headed the Projects & Planning Department at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).
Dr Anjani Kumar Takes Charge at WCL
His extensive experience in mining, projects and corporate functions will support his new responsibilities at WCL. The role covers key areas related to technical operations, projects and planning.
On the occasion, WCL CMD Dr Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (Finance) Bikram Ghosh and Director (Technical) Sandeep Paranjape welcomed Dr Kumar.
They congratulated him and extended their best wishes for his new responsibility at Western Coalfields Limited.
