In an effort to guarantee better returns for farmers, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), which is chaired by Narendra Modi, increased the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for fourteen kharif crops for the 2026–27 marketing season on Wednesday. A ₹622 per quintal increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for sunflower seed was announced by the government. The updated MSPs are based on the same formula as the Union Budget 2018–19, which states that prices should be set at least 1.5 times the cost of production.
By providing greater MSP incentives, the government has been pushing farmers away from traditional cereal crops and toward nutri-cereals, oilseeds, and pulses (‘Shree Anna’).
