The Waste to Energy push in Haryana is set to expand with OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL) signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four municipalities. The projects will combine municipal waste processing, Compressed Biogas (CBG) production and green power generation across Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Ambala.
Waste to Energy Projects to Process 5,000 TPD
The proposed Waste to Energy projects will collectively process around 5,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day. The facilities will be developed across four clusters in Haryana.
The Hisar project will have a processing capacity of 500 tonnes per day (TPD), while Ambala will have a capacity of 900 TPD. The Faridabad and Gurugram projects will process 1,600 TPD and 2,000 TPD, respectively.
Waste to Energy Model to Produce CBG and Power
The projects are expected to produce around 70-75 TPD of CBG and generate 50 MW of green power. The integrated model will use scientific pre-processing and segregation to recover different waste streams.
Recyclable materials will be separated for recovery. Wet and biodegradable waste will be used for CBG production, while non-recyclable dry waste will be used to generate electricity through Waste to Energy facilities.
Waste to Energy Approach Reduces Landfill Dependence
The integrated system aims to maximise resource recovery and improve energy recovery from municipal waste. It will also reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
By converting biodegradable waste into CBG and non-recyclable waste into electricity, the projects will create useful energy from different municipal waste streams. The model is designed to support more efficient waste management.
Haryana Backs Clean Energy and Waste Management
The MoUs were signed with the municipalities of Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Ambala in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, along with senior ministers, Members of Parliament and officials from the state government and Oil India.
The proposed Waste to Energy projects are expected to support Haryana’s efforts to improve municipal waste management. They also align with national priorities such as Waste-to-Wealth, circular economy development and the clean energy transition.
Projects Align with GOBARdhan Scheme
The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s GOBARdhan – National Circular Bioenergy Scheme 2026. The scheme promotes scientific waste management and supports the conversion of organic waste into CBG and other clean energy sources.
The Waste to Energy projects will bring together waste processing, recycling, CBG production and green electricity generation. The initiative is expected to strengthen Haryana’s sustainable waste management infrastructure while supporting India’s broader clean energy goals.
