A ₹4,415.60 crore project to improve and widen significant parts of National Highway 347B in Madhya Pradesh has been authorised by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), which is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This would strengthen the road connectivity and logistics infrastructure across central India.
A 125.01-kilometer section of highway between Hiwarkhedi and Rossni as well as Ashapur and Rudhy will be upgraded from an intermediate road to two lanes with paved shoulders as part of this project, which will be carried out under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). In addition, the portion between Deshgaon and Julwania, which spans 108.64 km, would be expanded from two lanes to four.
Betul, Khandwa, Khargone, and Barwani are among the districts that stand to gain from the infrastructure development, which would fix the long-standing problems with the current corridor’s traffic, geometric flaws, and safety.
In order to improve traffic flow and alleviate urban congestion, the project’s central component is the construction of a 16.20-km greenfield bypass around Khargone.
Reduced travel time, higher average vehicle speeds, and enhanced road safety are all anticipated outcomes of the upgraded highway network. Passengers and freight operators alike should anticipate reduced transportation costs and increased fuel economy as a result of improved road infrastructure.
Due to the fact that the improved NH-347B corridor will link various agricultural, logistical, and industrial centers across the state, the project is economically significant. A textile cluster, two mega food parks, an industrial park, and two super thermal power plants are among the six PM Gati Shakti Economic Nodes that will be accessible via it.
Five important social infrastructure nodes would be better connected by the highway as well. These include the tribal districts of Khargone, Betul, and Khandwa, as well as the aspirational districts of Barwani and Khandwa.
A multi-modal logistics park, two airports, and two railway stations will be connected to the corridor, further improving supply chain efficiency and regional trade.
By lowering logistical costs, boosting access to markets, and easing the movement of goods and services, the project is anticipated to stimulate economic activity. Better connections also bode well for the region’s access to schools, doctors, and other necessities.
The government’s sustained focus on growth driven by infrastructure and regional development is evident in the approval. Upon completion, the improved corridor is anticipated to be vital in luring investment, enhancing economic integration, and facilitating Madhya Pradesh’s long-term growth.
