The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited for the procurement of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the Indian Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks. The contract was signed in New Delhi on September 21, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Auxiliary Power Units to Support Critical Tank Systems
The Auxiliary Power Units will provide an alternate source of electric power for key tank systems. These include the fire control system, firing circuit and gun stabilisation system.
The APUs will also support other ancillary systems of the tanks. The Ministry said the induction of indigenously developed APUs will strengthen the operational readiness, reliability and sustainability of the Indian Army’s mechanised formations.
Auxiliary Power Units Procurement Supports Defence Indigenisation
The procurement marks a step towards the indigenisation of critical sub-systems for armoured platforms. The Ministry said the programme demonstrates industry-led research and development under the Make-II category.
The Make-II route is intended to support the development of indigenous defence equipment through industry participation. The latest contract translates the developed APU technology into production and induction for the armed forces.
₹586 Crore Contract Strengthens Domestic Defence Production
The ₹586 crore contract gives Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited the responsibility to supply APUs for the Army’s T-72 and T-90 tank fleets.
The procurement forms part of the Ministry’s broader focus on increasing domestic capabilities in critical defence technologies. It also supports the objective of building a resilient and self-reliant Indian defence industry.
The Ministry said the contract is aligned with the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and contributes to Aatmanirbharta in Defence.
