Neyveli Book Fair 2026: Tamil Cinema Icon Dr. R. Pandiarajan Inspires the Next Generation

On the seventh day of its brilliant celebration of creativity and culture, the Neyveli Book Fair 2026 embarked on an exciting new chapter, bringing together the worlds of literature, cinema, and performing arts. Attracting a large crowd of bookworms, students, filmmakers, and culture vultures, the evening’s main attraction was Dr. R. Pandiarajan, a renowned Tamil actor, director, and recipient of the Kalaimamani award.

The esteemed guests and participants were warmly welcomed by B. Anbuchelvan, Executive Director (REPP), CTO Civil, and CEC, who presided over the evening celebration. Speaking to the packed house of minds, Dr. R. Pandiarajan conveyed his deepest appreciation to the Tamil people and their cinematic legacy for providing him with the platform to speak at this esteemed event.

He congratulated the winners of the Neyveli Book Fair 2026 Short Film Competition, said that the young filmmakers had shown great originality, and encouraged them to continue making films that would have an impact and have powerful social themes.

As part of his personal journey, Dr. Pandiarajan reflected on the times when he had to put his education on hold due to financial difficulties. Nevertheless, he persisted and was able to acquire a Ph.D. in the end, showing the audience that with education and faith, anything is possible.

Success in literature and filmmaking, he said, is based on four things: creativity, self-confidence, great content, and the ability to use digital channels to reach an international audience. In keeping with its custom of paying tribute to notable authors, the Neyveli Book Fair bestowed its highest accolades upon Dr. Durai Dhanabalan for his exceptional and enduring impact on Tamil literature.

The event also paid tribute to Pustaka, a publishing business situated in Bengaluru, India, that is well-known for promoting digital books in several regional languages of India, highlighting the increasing impact of digital publishing. The significance of digital publication in increasing accessibility to literature from many regions was emphasised by the award. Aside from books, the Neyveli Book Fair 2026 also had a Short Film Competition, which was a huge success, drawing in about a hundred submissions from aspiring filmmakers in all genres.

Dr. R. Pandiarajan gave the winners their prizes and praised their imagination and storytelling skills. Imparting the message that reading is still the bedrock of good narrative, he urged the next generation of artists to develop reading habits that foster creativity, empathy, and imagination.

He made the observation that good tales are the foundation of good films, and that literature and cinema are complementary.
