The official launch of cargo operations at Noida International Airport is a major step toward the airport’s goal of becoming a premier aviation and logistics hub in India. Beginning Wednesday, the airport received its first cargo flight from Chennai, marking the beginning of extensive cargo flow via the facility.
Afcom Holdings’ Boeing 737-800F was the first cargo plane to touch down, and it brought over 20 tonnes of varied goods, including electronics, food, mobile phones, vehicle parts, and consolidated cargoes. Upon arrival, the aircraft was ceremoniously saluted with a water cannon blast, marking the beginning of cargo services at the airport.
Logistics and supply chain networks in the Delhi-National Capital Region are anticipated to be fortified once cargo handling activities get underway. The airport’s prime location, with easy access to the Yamuna Motorway, allows for the rapid shipment of commodities to important production and consumption hubs.
The first cargo movement operation at the airport will be completed when the aeroplane returns to Chennai after unloading.
The 87-acre, state-of-the-art cargo terminal at the airport will reportedly be run by AISATS. With its state-of-the-art architecture, the facility can accommodate the region’s burgeoning commerce and industrial operations as well as its increasing domestic and international cargo needs.
The airport would revolutionise western Uttar Pradesh and the entire North Indian area, according to Shailendra Bhatia, Nodal Officer for Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL). The cargo hub is crucial for boosting electronics manufacturing and exports, as 55 percent of India’s mobile phones are manufactured in the Noida-Greater Noida region, he said.
Businesses will be able to reach local and international markets more quickly thanks to the airport, which is anticipated to significantly increase exports of electronics, pharmaceuticals, food items, and agricultural goods.
Noida International Airport’s integrated freight infrastructure is one of its distinctive features. By consolidating India’s import and export cargo activities into one ecosystem, this airport has paved the way for the efficient transfer of commodities and the elimination of logistical obstacles.
Constructed as a multi-modal freight center, the airport is linked through air, rail, and road networks. In the future, there are plans to establish direct train connections, which will boost cargo handling efficiency and solidify its role as a key logistical hub.
Exporters and manufacturers in North India can look forward to new opportunities as officials have stated that international cargo operations are expected to begin within the next six months.
A number of new industrial parks are springing up in the vicinity of the airport, including Electronic City, MSME Park, Handicraft Park, Toy Park, Apparel Cluster, Medical Park, and Semiconductor Park.
While a second runway is being built, the first runway has become operational as part of Phase-I development. The airport is projected to become one of the world’s largest in the future with five runways and the ability to handle 225 million passengers per year.
