Trump quickly set the tone when he spoke to reporters following their bilateral meeting, saying, “A lot of things are happening between the United States and India,” indicating the complexity of the ongoing conversations between the two countries.
Trump was very clear when questioned about the trade deal between the US and India. He began by saying, “We’re very close,” before moving on to a frank and colourful critique of Modi’s negotiating tactics. “Negotiating with him is no picnic. Actually, he’s one of the hardest.
Then, Trump painted an attention-grabbing, up-close painting of the prime minister of India. This man is the most attractive man I’ve ever seen. Wow, he’s gorgeous. His demeanour is heavenly. However, in reality, he is a murderer. “He’s tough as nails,” they say. People tend to misunderstand Modi because of his mild manner, the US president said. “He surprises you,” Trump remarked with a clear sense of admiration.
In addition to discussing trade, Trump also touched on India’s growing geopolitical clout, especially in the West Asian region. “I believe India is significantly involved in all of this,” he stated. “No matter who’s in charge, India will be a major player.” In light of recent diplomatic developments in the Middle East, where India has been actively courting countries with different conventional ideologies, this comment is noteworthy.
