NTPC Elevates Arnab Maitra to Executive Director of Bongaigaon Power Station

An important leadership milestone for the company’s flagship 750 MW thermal power station in Assam has been reached with the elevation of Arnab Maitra to the position of Executive Director of NTPC Bongaigaon.

From January 2025 until now, Maitra has presided over NTPC Bongaigaon as head of both the project and business units. The operational performance, dependability, safety standards, and stakeholder engagement initiatives of the station have all been greatly improved under his leadership.

With over 30 years of experience in the power sector, Arnab Maitra is a highly qualified expert in thermal power generation, plant operations and maintenance, project management, and company leadership.

After earning a degree in mechanical engineering from what was once known as Regional Engineering College (REC) in Durgapur, he began his career with NTPC in 1989 as an executive trainee. He acquired a Master of Technology degree in Power Generation Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, which enhanced his managerial and technical skills.

Maitra has an impressive resume that includes important roles at numerous NTPC power stations. At Farakka, Vindhyachal, Korba, and Darlipali, he helped improve operational efficiency, plant performance, and the adoption of best practices in the industry.

Along with his work experience, he has completed specialised training programs in areas such as leadership development, coal coordination, safety management, prevention, power plant efficiency, human resource management, disaster management, first aid, and CPR.

Power generation, dependability, ash utilisation, environmental sustainability, and workplace safety have all seen significant improvements at NTPC Bongaigaon since Maitra took the helm.

Numerous national awards in the fields of sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), occupational health and safety, and human resource management have been bestowed to the station.

Aside from operational successes, NTPC Bongaigaon has increased its involvement with local communities through effective corporate social responsibility programs that target healthcare, education, women’s empowerment, and livelihood development efforts throughout the entire region.

It is believed that Maitra, in her role as Executive Director, will keep NTPC Bongaigaon focused on improving its operations, being more innovative, being more sustainable, and creating value for its stakeholders.

The station will be able to contribute even more to NTPC’s goal of providing the country with dependable, affordable, and sustainable power because to his vast expertise, strategic perspective, and people-centric leadership style, according to the firm.

Arnab Maitra’s promotion to the position of Executive Director of NTPC Bongaigaon is a reflection of the trust that NTPC has in his considerable background and ability as a leader. Maitra is anticipated to be an integral part of NTPC Bongaigaon’s success in meeting India’s expanding energy and infrastructural demands, thanks to her history of success in these areas as well as in operational excellence and sustainability.
