During their bilateral meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President U Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar discussed ways to increase economic, trade, technological, and people-to-people interaction.

The meeting is a significant diplomatic engagement during President Hlaing’s five-day visit to India, during which the two neighbouring nations will work to strengthen their traditional ties and explore new opportunities for partnership.

The two heads of state deliberated ways to increase cooperation across a variety of fields in order to promote economic involvement, connectivity, and peace in the area.

At Rashtrapati Bhavan, Presidents Hlaing and Droupadi Murmu are expected to meet later in the day.

The official schedule of the Myanmar leader includes a stop to the Raipithora cultural complex in Delhi to see the exhibition “The Light and the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One.” This exhibition features the sacred Piprahwa relics linked with Lord Buddha.

On Sunday, President Hlaing met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval before the talks between the prime ministers, and a major point of conversation was security cooperation.

While meeting with the visiting leader on Saturday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar again emphasised the favourable trend in bilateral relations.

With Prime Minister Modi in attendance, he continued, the alliance for “peace, progress and prosperity” will be advanced.

Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Indian minister responsible for external affairs, welcomed President Hlaing upon his Sunday arrival in New Delhi.

The strong cultural, people-to-people, and civilisational ties between India and Myanmar are on display during the visit, which Singh welcomed, adding that it also presents an opportunity to strengthen collaboration across several sectors.

From Gaya in Bihar, the President of Myanmar embarked on his visit to India. The Ministry of External Affairs characterised the visit as a manifestation of the profound spiritual, historical, and bilateral connections shared by the two countries.

A business forum is also on the agenda for President Hlaing’s visit. In an effort to deepen economic and commercial ties, he will visit Mumbai on June 2 and meet with prominent business people there.
