The significance of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership in fostering peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region was reaffirmed at Tuesday’s meeting between Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Talks between India and Japan, according to Prime Minister Modi, highlighted the importance of these two countries’ relationships in bolstering peace in the world.
According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Motegi made a 30-minute courtesy call with the Prime Minister during his visit to India for the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan last year, the two countries established a joint vision for the next decade of cooperation, which included a review of past efforts in areas such as security, economics, investment, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.
Under the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) framework, which is still in its early stages of development, the two nations have committed to working together more closely to create a robust and affluent Indo-Pacific.
Achieving tangible results in economic growth, investment, innovation, knowledge-sharing, and economic security were also stated as goals by the two parties, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
Following Motegi’s meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the two ministers reached an agreement to enhance people-to-people contacts in the lead-up to next year’s 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and to progress defence and security cooperation in light of the updated bilateral security declaration.
The ministers also covered news from West Asia and the Indo-Pacific region, touching on topics including maritime security and the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and safe for ships.
In light of the changing geopolitical landscape, the two countries have reiterated their commitment to working together to ensure reliable energy and commodity supply throughout South and Southeast Asia.
