Chakan-Bhosari MSME investments are set to receive a major boost, with 49 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) proposing investments of Rs 2,320.97 crore in Pune’s industrial belt. The proposed investments have been formalised through memoranda of understanding (MoUs). They are expected to expand production capacity, create thousands of jobs and strengthen the region’s industrial ecosystem.
Chakan-Bhosari MSME Investments to Strengthen Industrial Growth
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said MSMEs play a key role in supporting large industries, particularly across Pune’s automobile and engineering sectors. He said the proposed Chakan-Bhosari MSME investments would further strengthen Maharashtra’s position as an industrial and economic growth hub. The proposed projects are expected to begin production within one to two years.
MSME Census to Support Better Policy Planning
The Maharashtra government plans to conduct a state-wide MSME census. The exercise will assess the number and nature of MSME units, along with their employment generation, production capacity and business requirements. The government expects the data to support more targeted policies and improve facilities for the sector.
Infrastructure Support for Chakan-Bhosari MSMEs
The Industries Department and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will take steps to provide land, infrastructure and other facilities to the companies that signed the MoUs. Industries Minister Uday Samant said infrastructure concerns in the Chakan region are being addressed on priority. He added that demand for industrial land could exceed available supply within a year due to the expected investment pipeline.
Industrial Cities Plan to Improve Business Environment
The state government is also working to modernise older industrial estates and convert them into modern industrial cities. The proposed model would provide independent administrative mechanisms and allow local taxes to support administration, sanitation and infrastructure development. Pune district is among the areas being considered for the rollout of this concept.
Chakan-Bhosari MSME Investments Support Local-to-Global Growth
Fadnavis highlighted the role of MSMEs in developing alternatives to imported products and promoting a “local to global” approach. The government also rejected claims that industries were moving out of Maharashtra because of traffic and infrastructure challenges in the Chakan MIDC area. Samant said entrepreneurs continue to have confidence in Maharashtra’s investment climate.
