The Sankara Eye Hospital Saharsa was inaugurated by REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, as part of its corporate social responsibility project “Bringing Vision to Bihar.” The hospital was funded with ₹11.55 crore.
Notable authorities, such as TSC Bosh and the Director (Projects) of REC Limited, were present when Giriraj Singh launched the facility.
With a five-year plan to reduce preventable blindness, the hospital is projected to greatly improve ophthalmic care in northern Bihar, with 1.5 lakh outpatient consultations and 40,000 cataract procedures as targets.
Free or heavily discounted medical care for economically disadvantaged and underprivileged populations is another goal of the project’s inclusive healthcare delivery strategy.
Mobile outreach units have been deployed to conduct eye-screening camps in remote rural regions, patient care infrastructure has been developed, and modern ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical equipment has been installed thanks to REC’s CSR support.
A more accessible healthcare system and better medical facilities in underprivileged areas are the goals of the effort.
