The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has granted the “Eat Right Station” designation to ten stations along the Northeast Frontier Railway, an initiative to improve rail passengers’ access to safe food.
According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer, the certification is effective from March 30, 2026, to March 29, 2028, and it also covers the office canteen of the Divisional Railway Manager at Lumding.
Stations such as Silchar, Karimganj, New Haflong, Diphu, Lumding, Lanka, Chaparmukh, Jagiroad, and Sarupathar are among those that have been officially registered.
The certification is the result of an extensive audit that checked all food stands, catering units, and food handlers for cleanliness, safety, proper waste management, and the availability of healthy food options.
The success was a result of concerted effort by the station management teams, catering service suppliers, health inspectors, and railway authorities to keep the facilities clean and the food served safe.
As part of its mission to encourage sustainable, nutritious, and healthful eating habits across the country, Eat Right India has introduced the “Eat Right Station” tag.
The Northeast Frontier Railway, with headquarters in Maligaon, runs trains throughout the states in the northeast, some of West Bengal, and northern Bihar. The railway is committed to improving the quality of its services and the amenities it offers to passengers.
