Built in India: INS Kiltan Powered by Indigenous DMR-249A Steel

A strong symbol of India’s increasing military industrial self-sufficiency, the Indian Navy destroyer INS Kiltan is a component of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat program. With an eye toward coastal defence and maritime security, the INS Kiltan was built as a stealth anti-submarine warfare (ASW) corvette. By identifying and neutralising undersea threats, the warship is vital in protecting India’s coastline.

Thanks to the enhanced strength, durability, and stealth characteristics provided by this specialised steel, the vessel is well-suited for sophisticated naval applications. In order to strengthen its domestic defence industrial ecosystem, India has developed and is supplying defense-grade steel that is indigenous to the country. INS Kiltan exemplifies the partnership between government-run businesses and defense-related research institutes in providing indigenous answers to national security challenges.
