Trade Push Intensifies as Piyush Goyal Meets World Leaders for Key Talks

In an effort to strengthen economic ties and increase commerce between the two countries, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a number of high-level virtual meetings with important international peers on Wednesday.

During a fruitful meeting, Goyal and the UAE’s Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi discussed ways to strengthen economic relations and find new ways to work together strategically. The two countries have stated their desire to deepen their economic ties with one another.

The minister separately met with Chilean President Francisco Pérez Mackenna to discuss measures to speed up discussions for a free trade agreement (FTA) and to monitor progress on the pact.

In addition, Goyal met with the GCC Secretary General, Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, to underline the common goal of strengthening economic and strategic links between India and GCC member nations and to strengthen collaboration in many areas.

Osama Khaled Boodai and I also discussed ways to improve cooperation between important industries and to fortify bilateral commercial relations.

The minister also gave a virtual speech at the opening of the India-USA Trade Facilitation Portal, a website that connects American and Indian businesses in an effort to facilitate trade and improve access to markets.

Goyal also hinted that fresh policy measures are in the works to help Indian exporters weather the storm of global trade interruptions caused by West Asian geopolitical concerns. An announcement regarding the suggested measures is anticipated soon since they are presently being discussed across ministries.
