Protecting Undersea Cable Infrastructure for the AI Economy
The US Embassy in India confirmed that both nations hosted an “Undersea Cables Workshop” with public and private sector leaders. The event focused on protecting critical undersea cable infrastructure from physical and cyber threats.
Subsea communications networks carry the vast majority of international internet traffic. They power modern cloud platforms, digital finance, and artificial intelligence ecosystems. Through the TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technologies) Initiative, both nations are taking proactive steps to safeguard these routes.
India’s rapid digital expansion, rising compute demands, and strategic geographical location make it an ideal hub for landing and managing subsea networks.
Deepening Tech Alliances via the TRUST Framework
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor highlighted how the TRUST initiative strengthens cross-border technology alliances. Beyond subsea connectivity, the framework accelerates cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, energy, and space systems.
He also emphasized India’s inclusion in the Pax Silica initiative, a US-led network for secure supply chains.
“The reason India was in the first top 10 countries around the world to join this is that we trust this place. We trust the people here, we trust the technology, we trust your government,” Gor said.
He added that India is joining “a network of trusted ecosystems and resilient supply chains” covering technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum computing.
Accelerating AI Data Centers and Next-Gen Connectivity
The TRUST framework drives collaboration between governments, academic institutions, and private enterprises. By prioritizing verified vendors and protective protocols, the initiative ensures secure technology integration.
As a core milestone, the US and India are removing deployment barriers for large-scale AI compute facilities. This roadmap simplifies financing, power access, and network integration. As a result, private investments will accelerate the development of next-generation data centers and high-speed processor networks across both regions.
