Amit Shah Applauds Fuel Excise Cut by Narendra Modi Govt

In light of the growing cost of energy throughout the world due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the decision by the Centre to reduce fuel excise duty, saying that it will bring much-needed respite to citizens.

Shah wrote on X that India’s choice demonstrates a people-centric approach to governing at a time when many nations are dealing with fuel shortages and price spikes. During a time of worldwide uncertainty, he lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for putting consumer interests first.

Diesel and petrol now have excise charges of ₹0 and ₹3 per litre, respectively, thanks to a ₶10 reduction each from the Indian government. A reduction in the effect of rising crude prices is the goal of the action.

Fuel exports and supply to foreign-going aircraft are also exempt from duties, and imported aviation turbine fuel (ATF) is also exempt from customs duties.

The policy reaction is a result of disturbances caused by geopolitical tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel. These disruptions have an impact on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for oil exports around the world.

Companies involved in oil marketing are anticipated to bear a portion of the financial burden, with present estimates indicating losses of approximately ₹48.8 per litre as a result of increased crude prices.

In spite of the uncertainty in the world market, the Indian government has stressed that there is enough petrol, diesel and LPG on hand across the country, and they have warned against false information that could cause unwarranted fear.
