Seamless Shift: PNG Users Can Now Exit LPG Connections with a Click

The MyPNG-D Portal, developed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, allows customers who have switched to piped natural gas (PNG) to digitally disconnect their LPG connections without going to dealerships.

Consumers can now finish the process from the comfort of their own homes using a registered mobile number or LPG ID, according to Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas, who announced the initiative. This greatly reduces procedural friction.

In order to redistribute resources more effectively to homes that do not yet have access to cleaner cooking fuel, the goal is to hasten the voluntary surrender of LPG connections by PNG consumers.

In the first day after the portal went live, 1,797 users cut ties with their LPG providers, proving that it has already achieved early success (Mittal). He urged additional users to join the campaign in favour of fair energy access.

The government is banking on the digital intervention to facilitate a more widespread shift to PNG in cities, increase availability to clean energy, and streamline LPG distribution.
