Tripathi holds a BE degree from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Allahabad. He has also completed an Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management, specialising in HR, from Symbiosis Pune. A PMP certification from PMI USA adds further depth to his credentials.
A Track Record Built Across Key BEL Assignments
During his career at BEL, Tripathi has held several important assignments. His contributions span Human Resources, workforce development, digital transformation, employee engagement and organisational capability building. Each role added to a consistent record of measurable HR outcomes.
Leading HR Transformation at Kotdwar Unit
As General Manager of BEL’s Kotdwar Unit, Tripathi provided holistic leadership for the HR function. He aligned people policies with organisational objectives. Strategic frameworks and corporate directives guided this alignment. He translated his HR vision into measurable outcomes. Structured policy implementation played a role. Governance excellence, workforce capability enhancement and institutional capacity building followed close behind.
Under his leadership, the Kotdwar Unit registered 75% growth during the previous year. The unit also received Platinum recognition under the CII Excellence programme. The Kalinga Safety Award followed soon after. Quality Circles from the unit earned recognition at global forums in consecutive years. This reflected a strong, sustained focus on quality, productivity and continuous improvement.
Solving Talent Retention in a Remote Location
Kotdwar’s remote location made skilled manpower retention a real challenge. Tripathi introduced innovative recruitment and workforce engagement strategies to address it. Campus recruitment from regional colleges formed one pillar. Recruitment of Ex-Servicemen for supervisory roles formed another. Engagement of trained manpower through Advanced Trainee programmes, following apprenticeship completion, added a third channel. These initiatives delivered results. Zero attrition followed over the past two years. More than 150 professionals joined the unit during this period.
Tripathi also focused on capability development. Structured learning and skill enhancement programmes formed the backbone of this effort. These initiatives enabled the existing workforce to develop the Kavach system for Indian Railways in record time. Stable and productive industrial relations followed through proactive engagement. This contributed to a conducive work environment. The Kotdwar Unit went on to achieve a turnover of Rs. 1,058 crore.
Ambrish Tripathi: Driving Culture and CSR
Tripathi has driven a positive cultural shift at BEL. His focus centred on action, accountability and result orientation. He spearheaded CSR initiatives worth more than Rs. 15 crore, targeting regional and national priorities. Earlier, as AGM at the Integrated Software Complex (ISCO), he contributed to IT initiatives supporting smooth onboarding for Gen Z employees. Integration of learning platforms like Udemy and Coursera with BEL’s IT infrastructure helped transform the organisation’s learning culture.
His Vision for HR at BEL
Speaking on his vision as Director (HR), Tripathi said HR should become a strategic partner in organisational success. He wants to shift HR from an administrative function to a proactive driver of growth, innovation and employee excellence. His vision includes a future-ready PSU. That PSU should run on a competent, committed and agile workforce. High standards of ethics, transparency and a customer-focused approach should define it.
His mission centres on attracting, developing and retaining top talent. A culture of continuous learning matters here. Performance orientation matters too. Holistic well-being rounds out the approach. He plans to use cutting-edge HR technology for seamless, objective and transparent processes. An inclusive, empowering workplace forms the goal, one where employees can contribute directly to Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
Tripathi said his broader goal is aligning HR strategies with BEL’s long-term objectives. Government of India directives will guide this alignment. The result should enhance efficiency, productivity and overall work-life balance, positioning BEL as an employer of choice.
Four Strategic Priorities Ahead
Tripathi has outlined four strategic objectives for his tenure. Talent Transformation comes first. This moves recruitment beyond traditional methods toward Precision Talent Acquisition, attracting top-tier professionals through PSU stability combined with high-impact national project opportunities.
Agile Leadership follows as the second priority. This focuses on building a leadership pipeline at every level. Emotional intelligence and change management will shape future leaders under this approach.
Inclusive Wellbeing forms the third pillar. This expands employee welfare to cover holistic work-life balance. Flexible smart-office models and personalised career pathways fall under this priority too.
Digital Transformation rounds out the list. AI-driven HR platforms will support seamless employee lifecycle management. Automated onboarding and real-time performance analytics fall within this scope. This shift aims to strengthen transparency, meritocracy and data-driven decision-making across BEL.
Tripathi’s experience in strategic HR management, capability development, employee engagement and digital transformation is expected to strengthen BEL’s human capital further. His appointment supports the company’s continued growth and its contribution to Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
