On July 18, 2026, the Van Mahotsav was hosted by NHPC Limited in collaboration with PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, Faridabad. The event was part of the flagship programs ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0’ and ‘Lifestyle for Environment’. The campaign, which revolved around the topic “One Child-One Sapling,” aimed to motivate children to make a difference in the world by promoting environmental conservation, sustainable development, and public engagement.
Chief Guest and Chairman of the National Hydropower Corporation (NHPC) Bhupender Gupta formally launched the event. Aside from Sanjay Kumar Singh, Suprakash Adhikari, and Mahesh Kumar Sharma, the following individuals were in attendance: Principal Mamta Shekhar, senior NHPC officials, instructors, students, and chief patron Shikha Gupta of the NHPC Mahila Kalyan Samiti.
Speaking to the audience, Bhupender Gupta stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE urges individuals to include environmental preservation into their daily routines. He highlighted that everyone has a role to play in preserving the environment and called on all, including students, educators, and citizens, to plant trees and tend to them responsibly. He also stressed the need to teach kids about the environment so they can grow up to be good people.
Students will be encouraged to embrace sustainable practices and deepen their dedication to Mission LiFE, according to Principal Mamta Shekhar. More than just a plantation effort, she said, the “One Child-One Sapling” campaign is a commitment to leaving future generations a world that is clean, green, and sustainable.
The school grounds will be graced with the planting of 2,000 seedlings as part of the Van Mahotsav initiative. A total of 1,400 saplings will be gradually planted over the next few days to increase the campus’s vegetation cover; 600 of them were planted during the initial program, and the species included Pilkhan, Ashoka, Indian Willow, and Nirgundi.
Students from the school’s Cub-Bulbul and Scout & Guide groups performed alongside environmental songs, Bharatanatyam, group dances, instrumental music, skits, and speeches about environmental conservation. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, further emphasising the importance of student participation in spreading the message of sustainability.
‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0’ and the Van Mahotsav program, both of which are part of Mission LiFE, demonstrate NHPC’s dedication to community involvement and environmental sustainability. The initiative’s goal is to promote responsible environmental stewardship and foster long-term awareness among schoolchildren through the “One Child-One Sapling” campaign.
